Key Forces are Shaping the Antivirus Software Market

Several forces are at play in the antivirus software market that will ultimately shape the future for vendors, technologies and revenue in this market. These factors include:

The big security pureplay vendors are striving to broaden their revenue base and are investing outside of antivirus software.
The security disciplines and technologies, such as antivirus software, content filtering, firewalls and others, are converging. This convergence is needed because modern security threats, so-called blended threats, cannot be detected by antivirus signatures alone.
And of course, Microsoft has acquired an antivirus product and will be changing the market. Microsoft is expected to impact the revenue in the antivirus software market beginning in 2005.
