What
makes International SEMATECH (ISMT) different from most midsize
businesses? They certainly have an interesting history, and a unique
mission. But more than that, they're a midsize business with the
IT challenges of a large enterprise.
ISMT
is the world's leading consortium for developing technology infrastructure
to enable the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors.
Their member companies a virtual who's who in the semiconductor
industry include AMD, Agere Systems, Hewlett-Packard, Infineon
Technologies, IBM, Intel, Motorola, Philips, TSMC, and Texas Instruments.
Members cooperatively set global industry direction and accelerate
technology solutions in infrastructure, lithography, materials,
and manufacturing for the semiconductor industry.
In
support of this mission, ISMT must provide a manufacturing proofing
facility that is common to what consortium members have, while also
creating and supporting a challenging workplace for both ISMT employees
and consortium member assignees.
"We
have assignees from member companies at ISMT for two to four years
who work cooperatively on semiconductor process research",
said Mike Sigman, CIO, International SEMATECH. "They are the
'best of the best' technically and come from companies that are
strong IT suppliers with very high standards."
For
Sigman and his staff, this translates to delivering an IT sophistication
level not found at most midsize businesses, and being held to the
best practices of the member companies. In addition to the onsite
infrastructure, assignees have a continued need for connectivity
to their own companies, and heavily utilize a secure Web-site to
disseminate critical information to all consortium members.
"Our
IT challenges may be greater than those found in most midsize businesses",
added Sigman, "but the quality of IT support we deliver provides
maximum value for our members to reach their goals".
